27 Years Ago Today, I Escaped

It was my own personal independence day born from the night I chose freedom.

Italian fashion designer said it best when she said:

"The most beautiful things in life are simple and were given to us by God: the beauty of nature, happiness, light... and you know that you’re on the right path when your heart feels well.”

Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸 💥

Apple Cider Vinegar

Has anyone seen this series about Belle Gibson on Netflix? It's one of those things that you just can't believe happened. I could not help but think how it's a familiar playbook of the takers in this world who exploit others for their own gain. It was a good reminder to look for the big red flag and flashing lights when something has "guru" written all over it.

A Simple Grounding Exercise

I loved this... would welcome any thoughts. 🙂

If you ever feel a sudden pull - guilt, fear, anxiety, obligation, or the urge to explain yourself (we all do) this might be a good exploration to try.

If you are so inclined, name 5 things you can see, 4 you can feel, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste. Then ask yourself: “What is true right now, in this moment?” If you’d like, reply with what you noticed after doing it. We can build a small toolkit together that helps bring us back to ourselves.

This reminds me of one of the exercises I would do early on in my healing journey to help me learn to be in my body in the present moment. I would find a challenging post to balance on and do a yoga pose. The intense concentration and body awareness it would require forced me to quiet the noise in my mind. As I practiced it more I was able to shift to five senses awareness, which I could take with me anywhere.

What I experienced after those exercises was a feeling of calm and safety. If there was an important decision I needed to make, or simply didn't know what I needed in the moment, then it would help me tap into my inner voice.

The first time I did the balancing practice I also got to share my apple with a chipmunk and a bald eagle flew in front of me so I felt like the whole experience was telling me YES, DO THIS MORE.
